Inspection Report

Please take a moment to read the report following our most recent ISI inspection.

IN 2011 the DGMT were delighted this year support no fewer than 5 old boys as they undertake a range of projects throughout the world that aim to improve the lives of others far less fortunate than ourselves.

MICHAEL MELLOWS (2000) joined the Emergency Department at Tribhuvan Teaching Hospital in Nepal as part of his medical elective.

JAMIE (2005) and OLIVER COOK (2003) were amongst the first team ever to row the 1,000km length of the Upper Zambezi river in order to raise money and awareness of 'Village Water' - a charity that aims to eradicate water borne diseases, and provide sanitation and education to small and remote communities in Zambia.

WILLIAM OSBORNE (2000) joined the Christian Medical College, a hospital situated in the town of Vellore in Tamil Nadu as part of his medical elective.

RONAN MELLOWS (2005) travelled to Equador to work in a community-owned conservation and eco-tourism organisation called Santa Lucia.

We are looking forward to all boys visiting us later this academic year to share their experiences with the current pupils of St John's and in doing so to sow this seed of opportunity for the next generation of St John's old boys.

The Trust is delighted to support Jeremy Ousey in his venture entitled 'Project Huruma' which aims to provide medical assistance to some of the worse hit areas of Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania. Jeremy is currently aiming to provide clinics in with the most basic of medical equipment in order to increase the life expectancy of both children and adults. Jeremy has already spent time in Tanzania and returned to the UK recently determined to do what he could to raise awareness and funds to undertake additional future trips to the region.

Deadline for all applications is 31st December 2012

DGMT

The Dermot Gogarty Memoral Trust was set up in 2006 following the tragic death of the former Headmaster Dermot Gogarty.

During his time as Headmaster of St John’s, Dermot was fiercely committed to the idea of social justice and in particular the boys contribution to the needs of others less fortunate than themselves.

Since his death, the Trust has raised over £30,000 to support projects entered into by old boys of St John’s that have at their heart the idea of social justice. Old Boys of any age are eliible to apply for a grant.

The work of the Trust is on-going both in terms of the grants it plans to make and in the funds it aims to raise.

If you would like to support the work of the trust to apply for a grant, please contact the Headmaster at hmoffice@stjohnsbeaumont.co.uk or telephone (01784) 432428 for further details.
