Magis is a Latin word, meaning ‘more’. The Society of Jesus uses this word as a beacon to remind ourselves of what more we can do for others and to serve God.

St. John’s enriches its pastoral provision with a Magis programme that see the boys involved in a series of presentations throughout the year. The topics aim to foster a better appreciation of the world around us and the ways in which we and others can help.

All in all, a total of 22 separate presentations will take place in just this term, as well as form-group sessions with class teachers. The Magis programme incorporates all boys from Lower Figures upwards and takes place every Wednesday, after Games

Presentations arranged for this term include:
• A visit from the Fire Brigade (before Bonfire Night), detailing their service to others and how we can support them.
• A discussion of the effects of the Tsunami delivered by speakers who helped in the immediate aftermath.
• How Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the World.
• A visit from Battersea Dogs and Cats home, with some of their ‘residents’.
• The innovation of Sign Language and how we can help those who rely upon it.
. A visit from a NASA astronaut and the financial and human benefits and costs of space exploration.
