Art

Here, at the St John’s Beaumont Art Department, the fundamental belief is that every student has some level of creative ability. It is the aim of the Department to encourage and guide the student to discover their natural creativity and, perhaps more importantly, instill a lasting interest in and appreciation of the History of the subject.

All the Art courses are structured and gradated in a manner which enables students to ‘build’ on previous knowledge and allow them to complete work in their own time. Every student has the opportunity to exhibit in the Annual Art Exhibition which is held in the Summer Term.

The Art Clubs are always popular and students are encouraged to attend these evening activities in order to further their studies and complete additional work for their portfolios.

As the terms progress the student learns an increasing number of skills, both practical and theoretical, gaining confidence and competence using a varied range of ‘motif.’

In addition to the normal school term the Department runs Holiday Courses during which students are offered the chance of working ‘on location’ or on specialised courses in the main Studio.

Towards the later years ,at St John's Beaumont, the student is encouraged to undertake personal studies which involve researching the work of a chosen artist and creating their own response for their final exhibition.
