Music

There is a very strong musical tradition at St John's and the department is housed in a purpose built building.

Tuition is offered in all orchestral instruments and many more besides. Boys are entered for Associated Board music examinations and are also prepared for various music festivals.

The Choristers of St John's play a large part in the life of the school singing a regular pattern of services in the School Chapel. The choir recently performed in Rome and sang services in the Vatican. During the summer the choir performed on BBC Radio from the Charles Wood Summer School. In addition, the choristers

It is an important part of the musical life of St John's that each and every boy who learns an instrument should have the opportunity to perform in public. To this end, there are a large number of performances during the year, some of which are organised by the boys themselves. Click here to listen to some of the boy's music performances.

Drama also plays an important part in the life of the school and most boys have the opportunity to take part in a great variety of formal and informal productions, which take place throughout the year in the Hoy Theatre.
