Catering
The excellent reputation of catering at St John's is richly deserved. Great effort goes in to ensuring that boys are fed healthily and satisfactorily.
Boys are educated in the importance of a healthy diet and fruit and vegetables are eaten in enormous quantities every day. Boys receive a mid-morning snack which is a combination of cereal bars or fruit accompanied by water. A two course lunch will always be supplemented with additional fruit (very little is ever returned!). Afternoon tea, following an exhausting Games session is designed to re-charge their batteries and can be a selection of sandwiches and/or cakes with juice. Boarders will then have a three course supper and salad bar before a cup of cocoa prior to bed time.
A Food Committe, made up of 8-10 boys, the Deputy Headmaster and Head of Catering meet twice per term and boys suggestions are (where humanly and nutritionally possible) incorporated into the menus.
The School operates in a nut-free environment.
